I will confidently state every person who has dreamed of throwing it all in and disappearing into the world has a moment where they question themselves and likely every decision they have made that led to this point. I would also confidently state, for the vast majority of dreamers, this is the moment their dreams sink and drown, weighed down by an anchor of excuses.
I get asked a lot about how to book travel. Generally I book everything myself online, which is a simple enough suggestion, but can be fairly intimidating if you aren't sure where to go. This is a useful list of links and pages I use when I’m planning travel, and when I'm on the road.
To put it simply, yes. Is it simple? Well...no. Insurance is one of those annoying travel costs, because you do not appear to get anything for your money until something happens. Here are my thoughts on travel insurance.
I’m a self-confessed gear junkie with a healthy dose of hipster minimalist. I know, those two things don't sound like they mesh well. When it comes to buying a new pack though, I wanted to make sure I bought one that fit my needs. No suitcases. No wheels.

Travelling is amazing. What is less than amazing is hanging around in airport lounges and planes for 30 hours with only your carry on. Especially if you find all the things you might need are in your pack or suitcase, sitting at the bottom of a stack of luggage on the other side of the doors marked “Security Checkpoint. Staff Only”. Here's what I stuff into my carry on to make things a little easier.
Around the table there was a friendly discussion about luggage going on. The question being, how much is too much? I call it a discussion, however it had quickly descended into derogatory remarks about strength, honour and manhood, as happens once an impasse has been reached. Here's what I pack when I go travelling.
Do I recommend carrying a first aid kit? Sure I do. You ever had to try explain that you have constipation to a pharmacist who can only speak Mandarin? Trust me, interpretive dance can only take you so far. Here's my first aid kit list. Feel free to copy and add to it.
